The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Regulation of Sand Dealing and Dredging Operation Bill, 2018.
The Chairman, Osun State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Strategy, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, who said this in a statement on Tuesday, explained that the bill was sponsored in 2017 by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The bill was then committed to the House Committee on Environment and Sanitation after the first and second reading for further scrutiny.
After considering and accepting the recommendations of the committee at the plenary on Monday, the Deputy Majority Leader, Dejo Bello, moved a motion for the bill to be read the third time and this was seconded by Akinloye Ajibola after which it was passed.
The Speaker, who pointed out that the state had a lot to gain from the bill when eventually assented to by the governor, urged all the relevant law enforcement agencies to be alive to their responsibilities in making it work.
He stated that the bill would assist in boosting the internally generated revenue of the state especially at this period when the state needed to source for fund from other avenues.
Also, the House read the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission Bill, after a motion moved by Dejo Bello was seconded by Wasiu Adebayo.
The bill was however committed to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for further scrutiny and the report is expected back in a week’s time. Punch
