Trump mocks Democrats over FBI’s Comey
Tweeting President Donald Trump took to Twitter early today to mock US Democrats Senate minority leader, Senator Chuck Schumer over the stunning sack of FBI director James Comey.
Schumer had criticised the sacking as ill-timed as Comey and the FBI were investigating Russian links with Trump’s aides and President Trump himself.
‘Why did it happen today? We know the FBI had been looking into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians – a very serious offense. Were these investigations getting too close to home for the president?’ Schumer said in a press briefing.
He then turned his message to Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, calling on him to appoint a special prosecutor to look into ties to Russia, saying: ‘America depends on you to restore faith in our criminal justice system which is going to be badly shattered after the administration’s actions today.’
Schumer also claimed that he told the President that firing Comey was ‘a very bad idea’.
But Trump in a response on Twitter called Schumer, ‘crying Schumer’.
Trump pointed out, Schumer didn’t always have that kind of support for Comey.
‘I do not have confidence in him any longer,’ Trump quoted Schumer to have said in early November in reference to Comey’s 11th hour decision to look into Clinton’s improper private email server, which he said was ‘appalling.’
Comey was reportedly in Los Angeles when his dismissal was reported. And reports said he thought it was a media prank. His doubts were cleared by his staff who said he had been truly sacked by President Trump.
Trump predicated his action on the recommendations of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who wrote formal memo saying they had no confidence in Comey.NAN
