Reps yet to notify INEC three months after deputy leader’s death
Three months after the death of the Deputy Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, late Buba Jibril, the Independent National Electoral Commission has yet to be informed of his death.
This was the assertion of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State, Prof. James Apam on Wednesday.
Honorable Buba Jibril died on March 29, 2018 allegedly of complications of diabetes. Until his death, he represented Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Apam said that till date, there has been no official letter from the House informing INEC about the vacant post.
“As a law abiding citizen of the country, we have to wait until we are officially informed that there is a vacancy in the House before we can commence the process of conducting a by-election to fill the position,” Apam said.
INEC’s explanation was coming on the heel of a by-election held in Oyo State to fill the position of the state’s House of Assembly Speaker who died a month after Buba. Punch
