Police drop charges against teenager who poisoned boss
The Ondo State Police Command has said it will not prosecute a 14-year-old housemaid, Mary Akinnifesi, who allegedly put poison in the food of her boss, Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu, in Ondo town.
Akinnifesi was alleged to have added some rat poison to Akinlosotu’s food in order to revenge the alleged maltreatment she suffered from her boss.
The 63-year-old boss was reported to have noticed that the food had a strange taste and an unpleasant odour as he was eating it. It was gathered that he vomited the little he had swallowed from the food.
The maid had confessed to the crime during interrogation by the neighbours of the boss and she was thereafter handed over to the police.
Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, declared that the command would not prosecute the teenager following the instruction of her boss.
He said, “The complainant (Akinlosotu) has written to us to withdraw the case. So, there is nothing the police can do other than to obey the instruction of the complainant.
“We intend to do our job, but we don’t want a situation whereby we will get to the court and the court will say we are crying more than the bereaved, that is why we are leaving the case.”Punch
