Fire guts Access bank on AAUA campus, destroys ATMs
A fire outbreak occurred on Monday at a branch of Access Bank Plc on the campus of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.
The fire, which started in the early hours, was said to have destroyed some offices and the section where the Automated Teller Machines of the bank were placed.
It was also gathered that an undisclosed amount of money kept in the ATMs was destroyed by the fire.
The cause of the fire had yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report.
However, a source said the cause of the fire was not unconnected with power surge.
An eyewitness also explained that it took the quick response of the university’s fire service men to put out the fire, noting that none of the bank’s workers had resumed when the fire started.
The eyewitness said, “The fire incident affected the four new ATMs that were installed at the bank; also, some offices were gutted by the fire.
“It took the quick intervention of the men of the fire services department of the university before the situation could be brought under control.
“For some hours, members of staff of the bank were unable to gain access to the bank as they were all outside discussing the incident.”
The Head of Media and Public Relations Unit of the institution, Mr Sola Imoru, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent on the telephone that the fire did not have any impact on the school and members of the university community.
He said, “The fire occurred in the morning in the bank area on the campus when nobody was around.
“However, our staff and students are safe; the fire has no impact on any activity on the campus.”
