A former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, on Sunday knocked Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for allegedly  threatening workers in the state with sanction should they fail to vote for  him(Obiano) in the November 18 governorship poll.

Chidoka, who said he had documentary evidence in that respect, described the alleged act of the governor as wicked and despicable.

A statement by the ex- minister’s Director of Media Campaign, Viola Okolie, said Obiano was nervous in the contest.

The statement read in part, “The Osita Chidoka Campaign Organisation has become privy, with documented evidence, to threats by elements in the outgoing Governor Willie Obiano’s administration to teachers and other civil servants in the state to vote for the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the Saturday governorship election or face victimisation.

“This is completely wicked and a vicious act of extreme desperation symptomatic of a drowning leader cast in a frenetic mode to hang unto power even when it is obvious that the time is up.

“While we know that the Obiano administration and APGA have been in morbid fear of the popularity and overwhelming public endorsement of our candidate, Chief Osita Chidoka, and our great party, the United Progressive Party, it is, however, to say the least, despicable that in their nervousness, they are seeking to drag down innocent civil servants for rejecting them.”

In a reaction, Obiano though one of his media aides, Mr. James Eze, described Chidoka’s allegation as false and unfounded.

Eze said, “I think somebody is just afraid of his shadow.”

Chidoka, however, saluted the courage of the workers for mounting what he called “a stiff resistance and exposing this threat,” adding that the governor was on his way out.

The statement continued, “The Osita Chidoka Campaign will leave nothing to chance in protecting our civil servants, especially knowing they are dealing with very vicious elements.

“In this regard, this organisation has again assembled a team of lawyers to take up pro bono, any act of harassment, suspension, unwarranted transfer, query, delayed salaries, denial of promotion or any unjustified action against any civil servant before, during and after the elections.”Punch
